How often does my Car or Small Van need a MOT Test?

For new Car or Small Van you do not need an MOT until 3 years on anniversary of its registration and 12 months after the last MOT.
 

What MOT Test does your garage provide?

At a Bromley Garage Moston we can provide for following MOT Tests.
  1. Class 4 MOT which covers Cars, 4x4, SUV, People Carrier, Minibuses and Passenger Vehicles up to 12 Seats, Taxis, Small Vans Goods vehicles up to 3,000kg, Quadricycles.
  2. Class 7 MOT which covers Goods vehicles (over 3,000kg up to 3,500kg design gross weight) Large vans, Tippers, Crew vans, Work trucks High top vans, Long wheelbase.
  3. MOT for Campers and Motorhomes.

Can you service my vehicle as well as doing the MOT Test at the same time?

Yes at Bromley Garage Moston we can also do your annual service on your Car or Small Van  please let us know when booking your MOT Test that you would like your vehicle to have its annual service as well and provide us with the make and model of your car and the miles it's done so we can order in the right parts for your annual service.
 

Can I book my MOT before the expiry date?

It is best to book your vehicle in for its MOT a maximum of 1 month before your current MOT expires by doing this you will not lose any extra time on your an MOT for example.
If your MOT runs out on 15 May, the earliest you can get an MOT to keep the same renewal date for next year is 16 April.
 

How long does and MOT Test take?

It can range from anywhere between 45 minutes to 1 hour.

How can I prepare my Car or Small Van for the MOT Test to help it pass?

  1. Your vehicle is in a clean state in the inside and there is nothing blocking the way of the drivers area or seat belts.
  2. Have at least a quarter tank of fuel or 25% battery so we can do the relevant tests on the MOT and move your vehicle around.
  3. Check all your fluid levels including engine oil, screen wash, brake fluid, and power steering fluid.
  4. Check all tyres to see if they are in reasonable condition on are not bald.
  5. Check front windscreen wiper blades to see if there are adequate condition.
  6. Check all exterior lights  including  fog, headlight, sidelight, main beam, brake,  number plate, indicators, hazards.
  7. Check your horn by giving it a good blast.
  8. Check mirrors are in good conditions and can be adjusted.
 

Can I leave my Car or Small Van with you?

Yes you can leave your vehicle with us make sure your leave your vehicle well in advance of your test  or let us know you wish to leave it at our garage in the morning and we will try and accommodate you and we'll do  your MOT during the day so you could pick up  once it's done.
 

Can I stay and wait for my Car or Small Van to be a MOT tested?

Yes we have our own dedicated reception area and MOT Viewing Area where you can sit and wait as your vehicle is being tested.
 

My MOT has expired can I still drive my vehicle?

You can only drive your vehicle to and from a MOT Station and has to be pre booked beforehand  please contact us for a booking.

My Car or Small Van has failed its MOT Test and what happens now?

If your vehicle has failed it's  MOT Test it will need to be repaired to make it road where we again here at Bromley Garage Moston our trained mechanics can repair your vehicle and get you back on your way again.
 

My Car or Small Van has failed MOT Test and is now repaired what happens now?

Your vehicle we'll have a MOT retest and if we have carried out the or repair work on your vehicle there's the retest will be free.
